About Mountain Jim Foods, LLC
The “Mountain Jim’ concept came from growing up on a farm, and spending so much time outdoors. When it came time to start the company, we already had the brand idea and image in place.
All our products have some trivia or history on each package (like the Cracker Jack toy prize wrappers many of us used to get as kids). We call it ‘edutainment’- learning and entertaining. We started out with just ice cream, so each of our ice cream flavors were animal themed, with some point of trivia about that particular animal. We also added small bits of information concerning camping, hiking, cooking outdoors and animal interaction.
When we started Mountain Jim’s Tennessee Teacakes, it was only natural to include “Tennessee Tidbits” on each package- little bits of information about Tennessee history, places, people and creations.

The Legend of the Teacake
The story goes that during the Civil War in antebellum Tennessee, a young Southern belle was known for her beauty and baking. Though only 17, she had already perfected family recipes passed down for generations, including her well-loved teacakes.
When wartime shortages made ingredients scarce, she wanted to bake a birthday cake for a visiting young officer, but did not have enough supplies for a full-sized cake. Instead, she made small tea cakes. After the war, the officer returned to Tennessee and married her.

No Artificial Flavors
Mountain Jim Foods, LLC skips artificial flavors because we believe treats should be simple, wholesome, and made with confidence. Some artificial flavoring ingredients have been linked to potential health concerns, including benzene and diacetyl. We figure that’s nothing to mess around with—so we don’t. Instead, we focus on clean ingredients and real flavor.
rBST-Free and rBGH-Free
We believe fresh dairy should be simple, pure, and made with care. That’s why the cows that supply our milk and cream are not treated with rBGH, rBST, or other artificial growth hormones. While the FDA has found no significant difference between milk from treated and untreated cows, we choose fresh dairy free of artificial hormones.
No Artificial Colors
Some artificial dyes have been linked to allergic reactions, hypersensitivity, inflammation, immune system disruptions, and other health concerns. They have also been associated with increased intestinal permeability and respiratory issues, including asthma and bronchitis. That is why we don’t use artificial food dyes in creating delicious, guilt-free desserts.
No HFCS
Mountain Jim Foods, LLC keeps high fructose corn syrup out of our products. Chronic fructose consumption has been linked to health concerns such as insulin resistance, obesity, liver disorders, and diabetes. A University of California-Davis study also found that sucrose and high fructose corn-sweetened beverages can increase liver fat and decrease insulin sensitivity, a risk factor for Type 2 diabetes.
